  Why a Greenland Paddle?

1: Greenland paddles work, and work well.  These paddles were developed over hundreds of years by arctic hunters who used them to propel their boats over long distances in treacherous seas.  On these unforgiving waters, paddles needed to be reliable and efficient.  The special shape and techniques used make long distance trips, rolling, and bracing easily learned and easily executed in the toughest conditions.

2:  Greenland Paddles flex when pulled though the water, therefore, they are easier on joints, especially shoulders.

3: Endurance is the name of the game on the high seas or when taking a casual stroll. These paddles have a little less bite compared to their larger bladed counterpart which means you can go farther with less fatigue and less wear and tear.

4: People often ask me, "Well, isn't it less effective to paddle with such a thin paddle?"  This is a trick question because the surface area of the blade is actually the same or very close to that of European paddles.  The difference is the surface area is spread out over a longer distance giving the paddler more leverage and taking leverage away from other forces such as the wind.

About Us

Steens Mountain Woodworks is a small family owned business consisting of me and my wife to be, Heather.  I personally build each and every paddle to ensure a quality product is produced every time.  There is no mass production, therefore, every paddle is unique.  I have around 10 years of woodworking experience 3 or more of that being in boats and paddles.  Please, if you have any questions, feel free to call.

Thanks, Clint.
